Concerto (2021)

Inspired by Yun brocade, a highly complex Chinese silk weaving technique dating back to 220CE in Nanjing. The ornate brushwork imitates the intricate gold thread that would be spun and woven into the brocade fabric, creating magnificent patterns by the hands of multiple craftspeople for the wardrobes of royalty and aristocracy. The vivid reds and striking golds can be described as the sounds of a grand orchestra delivering an extravagant performance.

36x48”, acrylic on canvas.
