Méditation (2021)

Inspired by the resurgence of chinoiserie in 1920’s Paris where designers like Armand Rateau and Jean Dunand dominated the interior design aesthetic of Parisian high society. This piece is characterized by classic chinoiserie characters with intricate brushwork in warm gold against a cool raw sienna background. The emotions of the piece channel French composer Jules Massanet’s famous intermezzo “Méditation” from the opéra, Thaïs.
