“Tigress”, (2021)

Inspired by woodblock prints from the Edo Period in Japan known as ukiyo-e which depicted exquisite scenes of landscapes, nature and animals. The tiger was a symbol of strength, thus a common character amongst soldiers going off to battle. This is no ordinary tiger but a Bengali tigress, paying homage to the artist’s heritage.

Overall, this painting is a beautiful celebration of nature and the majesty of the tiger. It captures the serene beauty of a sleeping tiger in a peaceful forest setting, surrounded by the intricate beauty of winding branches and golden leaves. The tiger's fur is intricately painting with stunning attention to detail, with soft, subtle strokes that capture the texture and depth of the animal's coat. The tiger's peaceful expression conveys a sense of calm and serenity, making it clear that this is a creature at ease in its natural habitat. The matte green background provides a beautiful backdrop for the scene, evoking the lush foliage of a jungle setting. Winding branches add a sense of depth and dimension to the painting, leading the viewer's eye up to the sleeping tiger and the golden leaves that surround it. The gold florals are a particularly striking element of the painting, as it adds a sense of opulence, harmony beauty to the overall composition.
